DISCOVERING WEB 2.0 TOOLS
I checked out picnik (http://www.picnik.com/).
It is a really neat website that allows you to adjust colors, crop, resize, and add effects to your pictures. You don't have to register or buy any software. It is all free, but you are limited to what you can use. If you pay $24.99 a year, you can do much more. Although paying is lame, there are still enough tools on the website that are free. Above are example of pictures I edited using this website. It was quick, easy, and fun!
I chose this site because I love pictures. I think its amazing the technology there is that is able to create and enhance lifelong keepsakes. This would be a fun website to use around the holidays, Mother's Day, or Father's day. Kids could upload their own pictures of them and their family or friends and add their own touch to them. They can make them sweet and sentimental or crazy and silly. They even have a application that can change your picture into a puzzle! As far as an educational resource, I do not see any immediate uses, although it can be an aid for projects or fun things for your class to do.
An idea I would love to see in the classroom using this: Teachers could take digital photos of the kids and upload them to the class rooms computers. She could allow the students to play with the picture of themselves and make it the way they want it. When they were done, the teacher could print the pictures and hang them over their cubbies, on the room's bulletin board, or above stories or projects displayed in the classroom. Younger kids would love this!
