Lifelong Learner:
I think the easiest thing for me, and probably most poeple, is making goals. Anyone can sit down and decide they want to do something. The hard part is actually sticking with it. Four years ago I bought a guitar and was determined to learn how to play. I played around with it for maybe a few weeks. "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" is still the only song I can play. Now it just sits in my apartment (more as decoration than anything). I always feel a little guilty too when poeple come over and excitedly ask "You play the guitar? Play me something!" I still want to learn to play and it still is a goal, it is just on the back burner for now, like many other things. Which brings me to the hardest of the "7 1/2" things.
I always start projects or goals with the best of intentions, but get easily sidetracked or taken off course. There are many things that make me lose confidence in my ability to reach my goals. Sometimes its lack of resources, such as money to pay for classes, books, or lessons. Others it is lack of time or I lose interest. It is very easy to get discouraged when something doesn't come easily. If only I got excited about that fact that after a few weeks of playing the guitar that I could actually play "twinkle twinkle" instead of only being able to play "twinkle twinkle".
"7 1/2" things is a good idea. It, like many things, is easier said than done though.
